First edition of this agricultural encyclopaedia, which seeks to communicate 'a thorough knowledge of farming, a general knowledge of gardening, and a very considerable knowledge of the natural sciences, and of general country affairs' (Prospectus, Volume I).
4 volumes, large octavo (255 x 158 mm). Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, red and tan morocco labels, elaborate tooling to spines separated by raised bands, marbled endpapers and edges.
66 engraved plates, of which 7 are hand-coloured, and occasional illustrations and diagrams in text.
Some occasional mild foxing, spines and boards a little rubbed. A very good set.
