The Savoy.London, The Savoy, Stock Code: 139715
NotesFirst edition, first impression of this highly attractive promotional booklet printed at the Curwen Press, complete with the scarce dust jacket. "The purpose of this little book is to offer a few reflections of London from the windows of the Savoy. During the past year more American guests have stayed at the Savoy than ever in its history, and to them we dedicate this book" (introduction). The atmospheric photographs are by Hugh Cecil, who set up as a portrait photographer in 1912 and whose early style "was characterised by an elegant simplicity" (National Portrait Gallery).
Small quarto. Original paper-covered boards printed in red and yellow, shingle-patterned with an art deco palm frond motif, titles to front cover in black. With the dust jacket that doubles as a mailing envelope.
8 tipped-in collotype plates from photographs by Hugh Cecil, decorations throughout by Claud Lovat Fraser.
Oversized jacket with small loss to back panel, a few smaller chips to edges, penciled inscription to front panel ("The Savoy. Decorations by Claud Lovat Fraser"), covers just a little splayed and a touch soiled but still bright, front endpapers thumbed. A very good copy.
