The Springtide of Life.
Poems of Childhood. With a preface by Edmund Gosse.London: William Heinemann, 1918 Stock Code: 147713
First Rackham edition, signed limited issue, number 631 of 765 copies signed by the artist. A contemporary review described the edition as "one of his best... Rackham's delicate and romantic fancy is in sensitive harmony with Swinburne's poems and his pictures show that he understands no less than did the poet" (The Publisher's Weekly, vol. 94, 1918, p. 19).
Quarto (305 x 235 mm). Late 20th-century green crushed morocco, raised bands, red morocco spine label, spine lettered in gilt and decorated in four compartments in gilt, floral border to covers in gilt, top edge gilt, fore and bottom edges untrimmed, marbled endpapers.
With 9 tipped-in colour plates, including frontispiece, tissue guards captioned in green, and black and white illustrations to the text, all by Rackham, title page printed in black and green.
A very good copy, attractively bound, pale dampstains to fore and inner margins of a few pages, text unaffected, contents otherwise clean, plates bright.
Riall, p. 133.
