Presentation copy to Michael DeaverSecond edition. With the presentation inscription: "presented to Michael Deaver on March 22, 1981 on the occasion of his induction into the Lower Macom Street Choral Society", signed underneath by five individuals, including the Irish ambassador to the United States Sean Donlon who signs with the Gaelic form of O'Domhnallain. One of the signatories has written "To Danny Deaver" in reference to the famous Irish ballad. The recipient, Michael Deaver (1938-2007), served as White House Deputy Chief of Staff from 1981 to 1985 and did much to shape the Reagan image, having been the devoted friend of Reagan since he ran for Governor of California in 1966. The Lower Macom Street Choral Society were a group of regular attendees to the Washington socialite and columnist Mary McGrory's parties, featuring Irish ballads and gospel music. Deaver had only been in his Washington position a few weeks when the invitation was extended by the society, membership of which was secretly coveted by many Washington insiders.
Octavo. Original red cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket.
Spine a little cockled, else a very good copy in the dust jacket, a little scratched and creased at extremities.
