First edition, first impression. Presentation copy from the author, inscribed on the front free endpaper: "J. T. Dalladay, with greetings from his friend R. Austin Freeman, 24th April 1927". Freeman lived for much of his life in Gravesend, Kent, and J. T. Dalladay was deputy head and head master at Gravesend Grammar School between 1893 and 1907. This volume comprises six short stories, all linked by the protagonist's efforts to locate a hidden treasure.
