The Tale of Pigling Bland.London and New York: Frederick Warne and Co., 1913 Stock Code: 147936
First edition; the first two impressions are identical. The Tale of Pigling Bland is the nineteenth book by Beatrix Potter, and was the last book written before her marriage to William Heelis. With her marriage and the outbreak of the First World War, Beatrix's focus increasingly turned from the Peter Rabbit series to farming. Her failing eyesight and farming duties made more onerous by the onset of war meant that she would not produce another book until 1917.
Sextodecimo. Original green boards, spine and front cover lettered and decorated in brown, colour pictorial onlay to front cover, colour pictorial endpapers.
With 15 colour plates, including frontispiece, and black and white illustrations to the text, all by the author.
Neat contemporary gift inscription to front free endpaper, bookseller's ticket to front free endpaper verso. A very good copy indeed, spine a little faded, light foxing to first and last few pages, contents otherwise clean and free from marks.
Linder, p. 429; Quinby 22.
