In the first, Biggles and his crew are sent for a holiday but find themselves trapped in the midst of the Spanish Civil War, and in the second they are asked to start an air force for the Eastern European country of Maltovia. The third novel relates Biggles' first adventure of the Second World War, as he and his friends man an island base in the Baltic and must defend it from German planes and U-boats.
