The Violent Bear it Away.New York : 1960 Stock Code: 62636
NotesFirst edition, first impression. Presentation copy inscribed by the author on the half-title "For Louis Dollarhide in appreciation - Flannery O'Connor, Millidgeville, April 8, 1960". Inserted is O'Connor's calling card on which she has written "I took the liberty of correcting the typographical error on page 242, FOC". On page 242 she has crossed out "to" in line 19 and replaced it with "the". Louis Dollarhide was an English professor at the University of Mississippi who supported O'Connor's work and corresponded with her between 1957 and 1964. There are two binding variants of this edition, and the other presentation copy we have seen was also in red boards as opposed to the normal brown boards, so these may have been advance copies or produced specifically for the author.
Octavo. Original grey cloth backed red boards, titles to spine in white and grey, black end papers. With the dust jacket.
Boards very lightly rubbed, lower corner bumped, head of spine faded, spine a bit rolled, contents slightly toned. A very good copy in the rubbed, toned, and nicked jacket with a few short closed tears and chips to the upper panel and head of the spine panel affecting both sets of titles.
