The Wind's Twelve Quarters.
Short Stories.New York: Harper & Row, 1975 Stock Code: 148099
First edition, first printing, presentation copy inscribed on the title "For Tom, famous or infamous. Love from Ursula. 20.8.96". The recipient is likely the American science fiction author and poet, Thomas M. Disch (1940-2008). This collection of short stories include selected parts of Left Hand of Darkness, Earthsea, Rocannon's World, and others.
Le Guin and Disch were near contemporaries in the science fiction community and seem to have had a cordial relationship, if not a close one. Each held a different outlook on the role of politics in the genre, and Disch poked fun at Le Guin's political correctness in his acclaimed work on the cultural impact of science fiction, The Dreams Our Stuff is Made Of. Both authors often shared playing inscriptions between each other.
Octavo. Original black cloth-backed yellow boards, spine lettered in silver. With dust jacket.
Minor bumping to head of spine, boards a touch bowed; else a fine copy in near-fine jacket, minute creasing to head of spine panel, not price-clipped.
