The Witnesses.
London: Peter Davies, [1938] Stock Code: 91831
First edition, first impression. A remarkable account of the struggle with, and recovery from, mental illness. Though Hennell may be little-known to the general public today, in his time he was seen as an inheritor of the tradition of Constable, Cox and Palmer. He was selected for Sir Kenneth Clark's 'Recording Britain' scheme in 1940, and later became an official war artist. In May 1945 he was sent to record aspects of the War in India and Burma, where he was kidnapped by Indonesian terrorists, and is presumed to have been killed.
