Presentation copy from the author, inscribed on the title page: "For Darrel Simmons with best wishes Richard Murphy, 14 April 1977 at Chicago"; and with an authorial correction at page 10, changing the line "While the mist came down like chronic catarrh" to "Under leaky thatch listening to seabirds". An early piece by the distinguished Irish poet, printed by the Dolmen Press: "one of the key players in the resurgence of Irish publishing in the twentieth century" (Derval Tubridy in The Oxford History of the Irish Book, volume V: The Irish Book in English 1891-2000, 2011, chapter 25).
