Notes

First edition, first impression, signed by the author on the half-title and dated July 1928, the month in which the Equal Franchise Act was passed, granting equal voting rights to women and men ten years after women were first granted partial suffrage, and with a manuscript correction to the text, most likely in Fawcett's hand. Seen here on p. 15, the correction is to a misprinted quotation "the rout that made the hideous war" from Milton's Lycidas, altering "war" to "roar".
In this work, Fawcett, the leading women's suffrage campaigner, looks back at the movement's long campaign for the vote, and examines what has been achieved between the publication of her 1911 book, Women's Suffrage: a Short History of the Great Movement, and the passage of the Representation of the People Act of 1918, which granted the vote to women over the age of thirty who met a property qualification.
