The Works.London: Methuen & Co, 1908 Stock Code: 125622
NotesFirst collected edition of Wilde's works, one of 1,000 unnumbered sets on handmade paper. The texts were mostly taken from the last editions to be supervised by the author, in some cases with additional matter here published for the first time. The copyright of The Picture of Dorian Gray was held by Charles Carrington, so that volume alone appears with his Paris imprint. An additional 80 copies on japon were also issued.
14 volumes, octavo (205 x 143 mm). Contemporary half calf by C. J. Mensing in Amsterdam, spines lettered in gilt direct, grey cloth sides, light brown endpapers, top edges gilt, others untrimmed.
With the bookplate of F. Leeser to each front pastedown, and the small gilt-lettered morocco ticket of G. Hijmans to most front pastedowns. A few minor scuff marks to calf, very occasional minor foxing and a few tiny chips and tears to pages, De Profundis with small marks to title page and contemporary repair to a paper flaw at foot of p. xv. A very good set.
