NotesSigned limited "Atlantic" edition, the preferred "London" issue, number 491 of 620 sets signed by the author on the limitation page of vol. I, for sale and distribution in Britain. A further 1,050 sets were produced and signed for the American issue, and are by far the more common of the two issues. The Atlantic edition is the finest collected edition of Wells's works, with the author revising the text and providing a new general introduction and a special preface to each volume.
28 volumes, octavo (224 x 152 mm). Contemporary blue half crushed morocco, spines lettered and tooled in gilt, blue cloth sides and endpapers, top edges gilt.
Photogravure frontispieces with tissue-guards in all volumes.
Spines and extremities sunned, a few tissue-guards lightly creased, one tiny patch of abrasion to rear cover of vol. IV, a few page corners in vol. XXIII lightly creased, yet still a near-fine, handsome set.
