With the bookplate of Sir Joshua Vanneck (17021777), 1st Baronet, of Putney, Surrey, to the front pastedown of each volume. Sir Vanneck was the son of Jacob Cornelius van Neck (15641638), a Dutch naval officer and explorer who led the second Dutch expedition to Indonesia from 1598 to 1599. After emigrating to London, Joshua Vanneck found success as a merchant and acquired Heveningham Hall estate in Suffolk in 1752. His family remained in possession of the Hall until 1970.
3 volumes, duodecimo (169 x 97 mm). Contemporary sprinkled calf, brown morocco label to spines, titles to spine gilt, raised bands.
Frontispieces and 4 plates by Francis Hayman and engraved by Charles Grignion, with head- and tailpieces throughout.
