Notes

First edition thus, with Croly's memoir and notes, of Pope's works. This attractive set derives from the library philosopher and writer of Alan W. Watts (1915-1973), with his esoterically illustrated bookplate (which he designed and included the biblical motto "pulsate et aperietur vobis" "knock, and it shall be opened to you") to each volume. Watts was a highly significant early populariser of Zen Buddhism in the Western world.
