The Works... In two volumes.
London: printed for C. and J. Ollier, 1818 Stock Code: 123293
First edition, dedicated to "My dear Coleridge" and issued by the Olliers, publishers of Keats, Shelley, Hazlitt, and Leigh Hunt. "Life at the East India Company seems to have become easier for Lamb in the middle of the decade. In 1816 his salary went up, and his duties diminished (though these always fluctuated with the contingencies of trade). The Olliers published his Works in two volumes in 1818, partly through the friendly influence of Leigh Hunt. Lamb's literary output had fallen away in the preceding years, so he may in 1818 have thought this edition likely to be his main literary monument" (ODNB). The Works comprises a selection of poems, essays, and letters, alongside the tragedy John Woodvil and the story Rosamund Gray; some seven poems are by Mary Lamb.
