NotesSecond edition. An issue of 750 sets of the second edition were published in March 1843, at the same time as the third edition of Borrow's The Bible in Spain. Both editions sold rapidly and were reissued the same year, together cementing Borrow's success. The second edition features a new preface by Borrow and a number of passages from the first edition "which might have been deemed gratuitously offensive", such as one describing the alleged theft of children, were removed.
