It was actually published in December 1871, in an edition of 9,000 copies.
Octavo. Original red cloth, recased, spine lettered in gilt, triple rule border and central vignettes in gilt to covers, black-coated endpapers, gilt edges. With a contemporary red cloth dust jacket.

Binder's ticket to rear pastedown. Rubbing to extremities, slight wear to spine ends, various small marks and a little fingermarking to cloth, a remarkably bright copy; the jacket with water and ring marks to front panel and onto spine.
