[Reprinted from the "Pall Mall Gazette."]London: Chapman and Hall, 1866 Stock Code: 128287
First edition in book form. Remarkably well-preserved copy of a book almost always found in tatty condition with the delicate cloth faded to brown. Uniform in format with Hunting Sketches (1865) and Clergymen of the Church of England (1866), which was initially titled "Clerical Sketches". All three works collect articles first published in the Pall Mall Gazette.
Octavo. Original pale red pebble-grain cloth, titles in gilt to front board, blind frames to boards, dark green endpapers.
Bookplate of G. Atthill to front pastedown. Extremities a touch faded, the binding otherwise sharp and firm, internally untoned and clean; a fresh copy.
