Trina.William Heinemann, London , 1934 Stock Code: 103408
NotesFirst edition, first impression, presentation copy, inscribed by the author "To Dr Marshall from H. S. Hoff" on the front free endpaper, with a later inked addition (not in the author's hand), including his initials (F.H.B.) and identifying him as a don at Christ's College, Cambridge. Hoff read natural sciences there, graduating in 1933 - a year before publication of this novel. The recipient was likely Professor Francis (Tibby) Marshall (1878-1949), Dean (1926) and Vice Master (1939) at Christ's College. Marshall was a pioneering scholar of mammalian reproduction, and was known affectionately in Cambridge as "Tibby", his pet name for the college cats. This is the author's first book, and the first of four books under his real name; he later wrote under the pseudonym William Cooper. It was published later the same year in the US under the title It Happened in PRK. Scarce in the jacket.
Octavo. Original red cloth, titles to spine black. With the dust jacket.
Spine a little rolled; an exceptional copy in the bright jacket, with some nicks and short closed tears to extremities, and tape repairs to verso.
