Typed letter signed from astronaut John Glenn, the first American to orbit the earth, in response to a request of Ray Gardner (1919-1997), journalist at the Toronto Star, for his outlook on the coming decade. Glenn politely declines the request: "Dear Mr. Gardner: This letter is to confirm the previous telephone conversations concerning your very kind invitations to participate in the series you plan concerning outlook and changes for the 1970's. I appreciate very much your invitation and regret I cannot participate, but I wish you the very best. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and the happiest of New Year's. Best regards. Sincerely, John Glenn".
