Typed letter signed to Eileen Cond.London, 5 December 1957 Stock Code: 123740
NotesFleming writes to this "most faithful follower" of his fortunes: "I well remember my pleasure at getting your letter shortly after 'Casino Royale' was published. It was my first fan letter from a member of the public!... here, with my very best wishes, is your bookplate for 'The Diamond Smugglers'." Eileen Cond was a book collector who sent out her bookplate to her favourite authors, many of whom signed and returned them to her. Cond's copy of The Diamond Smugglers, which was published a month prior to this letter, was sold at Heritage Auctions in 2008; Fleming inscribed the bookplate "To Eileen Cond - the faithful one - from Ian Fleming, 1957".
