Road construction

A very interesting collection of rare pamphlets on road construction, including one unrecorded:

a) LAUNHARDT, Wilhelm. Ueber Rentabilitat und Richtungsfeststellung der Strassen. Hanover 1869. 54 pp. including terminal advertisement leaf and folding map showing the road system linking the Elbe and Weser rivers. WorldCat lists 7 copies (none in North America).

b) LAUNHARDT, Wilhelm. Die Steigungsverhaltnisse der Strassen. Hanover: Schmorl & von Seefeld, 1880. 49 pp. An extract from the Zeitschrift des Architekten und Ingenieur. Not listed in WorldCat.

c) PETRLIK, Christian. Das Walzen der Straszen als Mittel zur Erzielung von Ersparnissen bei deren Erhaltung. Prague: Rivnac, 1883. 38 pp. + 1 leaf; 8 folding plates of steam-driven road rollers. WorldCat list 2 copies (Zurich and Braunschweig).

d) LEUCHS, J. C. Der Strassenbau. Nuremburg: C. Leuchs & Comp, 1877. 36 pp. 3 illustrations of machinery in the text. WorldCat lists 3 copies (Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Erlangen and Strasbourg).

e) MEYN, L. Der Asphalt und seine Bedeutung fur den Strassenbau grosser Stadte. Halle: Waisenhauses, 1872. 92 pp. WorldCat lists 17 copies.

The two works by Launhardt, a civil engineer who worked on the construction of transport infrastructures in Germany, concern the profitability of roads and gradient conditions. Petrlik, a professor of engineering at the Prague Hochschule, writes on road rolling as a means of conserving roads and achieving savings. The two works by Leuchs and Meyn are on the use of asphalt in road construction.
