First edition, first printing, inscribed by the editor on the front free endpaper "To Andy, with best wishes Christopher Isherwood". An anthology of writings addressing Vedanta, the school of Hindu philosophy addressing the divine nature of man, ideas to which Isherwood was introduced by his friend Aldous Huxley, who introduced him to Swami Prabhavananda and his circle. Isherwood undertook the editorship of the bimonthly journal Vedanta and the West, concerned with the theory of Vedanta teachings and their relevance to western life, with this the second published collection of articles from the journal, including contributions by Isherwood, Huxley, Prabhavananda, Alan W. Watts, Gerald Heard, and others.
