First UK edition, presentation copy from the author, inscribed on the front endpaper, "To Sir Sidney and Lady Colvin with great affection from J.C. 1915". Sir Sidney Colvin had been Slade Professor of Fine Arts at Cambridge and Keeper in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum between 1884 and 1912. He was introduced to Conrad by H. G. Wells and the period from 1913 onwards show them as close friends with a regular correspondence and meetings often discussing Conrad's work and Colvin's reviews of other novelists.

Condition
A very good copy indeed with covers a little dusty and with a small mark to the spine. Unobtrusive book label to the front pastedown.
