View at Guimaraens (Entre Minho e Douro).

George Vivian (1798-1873), draughtsman and painter from London, travelled through Spain and Portugal making sketches of many old buildings and towns. On his return Vivian made the drawings famous publishing a collection of lithographs under the title "Scenery of Portugal & Spain". The work consists of 33 magnificent drawings on stone by L. Haghe. Vivian selected the most interesting and picturesque scenes for the lithographs, delivering a vivid picture of the countries in the early nineteenth century.

Vivian notes: 'Guimaraens, in Entre Minho e Douro. This was an old seat of the Braganza Family, and contains among other Antiquities of the middle ages, the remains of a fine Castle belonging to that family. The Drawing represents a view beyond the walls of the Town in front of the bridge and Church of S. Maria do Campo da Feria.' Engraved by HAGHE, L.
