A stunning example of the scarce jacketFirst edition, first impression, in a striking example of the very scarce jacket, first state, with the list of books on the rear panel ending with Jeffery's Second Choice. This was Waugh's second published novel. It sold well on publication, reaching seven printings in as many weeks, and established Waugh as the pre-eminent novelist of his generation.
Octavo. Original black and red snakeskin patterned cloth, titles to spine gilt. With the Waugh-designed dust jacket. Housed in a red quarter morocco solander box by the Chelsea Bindery.
A lovely, sharp copy, cloth bright, touch of foxing to edges and final two pages, contents otherwise clean, in a superb example of the dust jacket, spine just a little rubbed and slightly faded, couple of nicks to head of spine, notably fresh and bright.
