Notes

First edition, first printing, inscribed by the photographer "To John Wilmerding, with pleasure, with respect, Walker Evans, Oct. 1972, Hanover" on the front free endpaper, and with an original photograph of Walker Evans laid-in at the rear. The recipient was the former senior curator at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and professor emeritus of American Art at Princeton University. Scarce inscribed.
