War and the Christian Faith.London: Skeffington & Son, Ltd., 1918 Stock Code: 144148
First and only edition in book form, written after his very successful Bowmen (1914) and at the suggestion of the acting editor of The Evening News where it was first published and where Machen worked as a reporter from 1910 to 1921.
"Although he detested journalism, his Johnsonian manner and compelling character established him as one of Fleet Street's most charismatic figures. The Evening News carried several of his wonder stories, and the appearance in September 1914 of his wartime fantasy The Bowmen brought him to public attention" (ODNB). Machen is best known for his influential supernatural, fantasy, and horror fiction.
Small octavo. Original brown boards, titles in dark brown to spine and front board. With dust jacket.
A touch rubbed at corners, the binding otherwise sharp, scattered foxing to edges and contents, else internally unmarked. A very good copy indeed, in the very good jacket, minor nicks to corners, spine panel a little faded, else bright.
