First edition. Attractive, well-illustrated history of the Russo-Japanese War edited from contemporary accounts by a respected journalist and editor, who worked on the staff of the Educational Times and the Daily Graphic, editor of the Illustrated Scientific News and Knowledge.
Description
6 volumes quarto. Original slightly variable blue-grey pebble-grained pictorial cloth, title gilt to the spines, Russian eagle and Japanese chrysanthemum devices with image of a Mount Fuji with ships moored in the foreground to the front boards, all edges gilt.
Illustrations
Double-page coloured map as frontispiece to each volume, numerous plates, illustrations, sketch maps, and plans to the text.
Condition
A little rubbed and soiled, spine of volume I repaired, no loss, volume II slightly shaken, endpapers browned, some foxing as usual, but overall a better than average set of this attractive, but somewhat fragile, production. Later gift inscription verso of the front free endpaper of volume I.
