Ernest Hemingway's copyFirst edition, first printing. Ernest Hemingway's copy of Watcher in the Shadows, inscribed by him on the head of the front panel of the dust jacket, "bjo - Bath Robe Missing, EH. Wed & cable Mary - Buy Medicines - collect Pollo". Additionally inscribed on the front flap, "To Ronda, gas 346 pesetas." In the summer of 1960 Hemingway travelled alone to Spain, mainly staying in Andalusia, his fourth wife Mary, mentioned here, visiting for his birthday. Hemingway wrote of Ronda, a small city near Malaga, in Death in the Afternoon, "there is one town that would be better... to see your first bullfight in if you were only going to see one and that is Ronda". Hemingway committed suicide on 2 July 1961 after a year of deteriorating health, alluded to here with the mention of contacting his wife for her to buy his medicine.

Slight bumps to spine ends, an excellent copy in the jacket with slight nicks to extremities. Additional inscribed jacket expertly restored with slight creasing and nicks to extremities.
