NotesFirst edition. An excellent account of the formation and operations of General Roberts's expeditionary force. Captain Colquhoun, arrived only in time for the action on Peiwar Kotal, but compiled a detailed account of the preparation of the force and its advance from the diary of Major Collett, the assistant quartermaster-general. Colquhoun, a Royal Academician, illustrated the book himself with five lithographed landscape scenes.
A series of appendices give detailed information on the composition and ordnance of the force, and there is a useful summary of the work done by Punjab Chief's Contingent keeping lines of communication open written by Major W.C. Anderson, later of the 3rd Punjab Cavalry regiment.
