Words for the Wind.London: Secker & Warburg, 1957 Stock Code: 148661
First edition, first impression, preceding the US edition by a year, of this collection of poems by Roethke.
Roethke met Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes at a party on 1 February 1961. The following day, Plath wrote about him to her mother: "I've always wanted to meet him, as I find he is my Influence. Ted gave me his collection Words for the Wind this Xmas & it's marvelous. Look it up in the library - I think you would like the greenhouse poems at the front very much".
Octavo. Original green boards, spine lettered in silver. With dust jacket.
Foot of spine a trifle sunned, the binding otherwise sharp, faint foxing to edges and first and last few leaves, else internally fresh. A very good copy indeed in very good jacket, minimal loss to corners, a touch of foxing, not price-clipped.
