You Only Live Twice.London: Jonathan Cape, 1964 Stock Code: 138050
InscribedFirst edition, first impression. Inscribed on the front free endpaper by the author, "To Jonathan from Ian". The precise identity of the recipient is uncertain (although several Jonathans tantalize). You Only Live Twice was the twelfth Bond book, based on Japanese material that Fleming had gathered on his five-week foreign jaunt on behalf of the Sunday Times, the basis of his non-fiction Thrilling Cities (1963). It was the last Bond story published in his lifetime. This is the second state, with textual corrections (no priority of issue).
Octavo. Original black cloth (Gilbert's binding A, no priority), spine lettered in silver, Japanese characters to front cover in gilt, patterned endpapers. With dust jacket. Housed in a custom black quarter morocco box, spine lettered in gilt, black cloth sides.
A couple of light fox marks to top edge, otherwise a fine copy in the near-fine, bright jacket, small blue mark to spine panel, very light nicking and rubbing at extremities.
Gilbert A12a (1.3).
